I just had to chime in on this discussion, because I last went to the Pongshri's when it was up at the north end of Grants Pass between 6th and 6th, just a few blocks south of the freeway. I went there with groups a couple of times and had a decent Thai meal (which is somewhat unusual in Grants Pass). It was adequate to good when they were at that site. Now that they are way down by the Highway 199 turnoff at the south end of town, past the bridges over the Rogue River, I haven't stopped in. It's clearly in a cheaper and more difficult area to access -- you have to be going the right direction on a one-way street, ready to take a right-hand turn into an old strip market area next to an OLD Bi-Mart. It's kind of a sad site, and I haven't felt compelled to check it out yet. If I get the hankering for Thai food, I might. However, there are a couple of other sites in Grants Pass now that might fit the bill. Too bad, so sad.

My husband and I chose Pongsri Thai as we were on our way up the coast to Portland. The restaurant is in a small bungalow house and has a nice cozy environment. We were seated promptly and were pleased to see that they had several vegetarian options. I chose a spicy cashew stir fry that was supposed to come with hot red peppers and of course, cashews. When the meal came, I was sure I'd been served the wrong dish. After further investigation: yep, no peppers and no cashews. I pointed this out to the waitress. She walked away and then returned with some cashews, presumably for me to finish making the dish myself. I wish the disappointment had ended there, but I have to say the food was utterly tasteless and had clearly been made with a cheap bag of frozen stir fry mix (with an overabundance of celery to boot!) When you're in Grants Pass, I say pass on the Thai food.

Worst Pad Thai ever...and I really really wanted to like it. Bad service also.

Another good Thai restaurant in Grants Pass! My son was home over the holidays and wanted to go to Pongsri's. I was hesitant since I hadn't enjoyed their food in recent years, but we went where he chose. I was pleasantly surprised! Both of our choices were tasty, and the service was great. I'm looking forward to our next visit!

Excellent food, good service, reasonable prices - this place threatens to be as good a Thai restaurant as one can find in Southern Oregon. I've only eaten there once but it was delicious. The map accompanying this review isn't quite accurate, and access can be complicated. This restaurant has a Redwood Highway address but is actually just off Short St. near 6th. If you are coming from downtown Grants Pass, just turn right on Short Street, then into the parking lot. Pongsri's is in the little mall on the corner. If you are coming a different direction: From the intersection of Redwood Highway, Grants Pass Parkway, Williams Highway, and Sixth Street, you will go west for just one block on Redwood Highway, turning right on Tussey Lane. Follow past the back of the Bi-Mart to its ending on Short St. Turn right again here, then into the small mall on the right, and there is Pongsri's. Eat here as soon as you can! ================================================== NOTE: The above directions no long apply - they've moved to the address on NE "E" Street, given above. They are still a good place to eat!

Stopped while passing thru grants pass because of the reviews. I recommend it. It's very reasonable and the soup was delicious.

I'd like to state that everyone has their taste preferences and you probably all have your favorite dish at some Thai restaurant that you order at different restaurants and it does not compare to your favorite dish at whatever restaurant. That's a given for most people and I would like to suggest that perhaps you try something different when ordering at a new restaurant so you are not instantly passing judgement on how this restaurant doesn't cook your red curry how you like it at Thai restaurant "x". For me, Pongri's is the best Thai restaurant in Grants Pass, perhaps in the valley, and I have feasted at every one. On road trips I tend to dine on Thai coisine as often as I can because it is my favorite type of ethnic food. Anyway, about Ponsri's....I had read someone's review about the orange chicken being some of the best they have ever had and I would have to agree with that statement. The breading is light and golden and the sauce is sweet, tangy and orangey. I love veggie tempura and when in season they serve asparagus tempura which is great. I've tried to replicate the breading, but haven't quite mastered it yet. My gf is vegetarian and vegan as much as possible, and they have prepared her dishes special to accommodate her request. I enjoy vegetarian and meat dishes from here. My gf loves the vegetarian eggplant with chili and mint, veggie tom kha soup with mushroom, phad woon sen, phad Thai...I really enjoy the Thai BBQ chicken, tom yum goong, veggie chow mein, garlic lovers, spicy fish, etc.. I can go on and on, but you get the picture. I have my preferences, but I think there has only been one dish on the entire menu that I do not care for and I am happy to eat everything else. The restaurant is quaint. I like that it is a family run business. Pam is co-owner with her husband and stays busy at the restaurant as hostess/server, she is very sweet and friendly. Tom, her husband is the main cook in the kitchen where all the magic happens. Tan their son is often waiting tables and doing college homework. It seems to me they have friends helping them operate the business. The restaurant has nice lighting and I like to try and catch it when it is quiet with few customers. There is a fish tank with quite large gold fish that are fun to watch. For me Pongri's rates one of the highest for places to eat in Grants Pass. I think if you give them a chance, it will likely become one of your favorite places to dine out as well.

Another little stop on our big road trip. This place was actually recommended by a local and we're glad we went. Extremely tasty food. A bit more spendy than expected but not too bad. I did explain my food allergies to the manager but she must not have completely understood as there were peanuts all over my pad thai. I would recommend going to this place if you don't want to ask the servers for anything other than what's on the menu. They didn't seem to understand any sort of special requests. All in all, it's pretty good food IMHO.

Pongsri's is delicious! My husband and I recently moved to Grants Pass and found this little gem of a restaurant hidden on E street. The first time we went there I had their Pad Thai and it was amazing. My husband is an orange chicken connoisseur, and upon tasting their orange chicken we both decided that it was the bomb! I hate orange chicken, and this is the first orange chicken I actually enjoyed. Last night we went there for dinner again and I had the yellow curried chicken. It was fantastic! I love their lemon ginger tea, won ton soup, and chicken satay! I highly recommend Pongsri's to anyone craving good Thai food.

One of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. Took forever to get service, food came cold & in segments with no dishes & silverware. Portions very small. Incompetent service. Save your money & dine elsewhere.

The restaurant is in a nice old house and is really very nicely done. The food, however, is only okay. Friendly staff and decent prices make up for that some, and my dining partners were more favorable than I.

Finally, an exceptional Asian Restaurant in lil' old GP. Have eaten here twice in the last week. All of the other 4 people I ate with continue to rave about the food and service. This place is conveniently located, the food is exceptional, and the service is wonderful. I recommend the Spring Rolls and Pot Sticker appetizers. The Cashew Chicken is some of the best I have ever had. The Special Fried Rice is to die for. Try this place, I imagine you will enjoy every bite. Bon Appetite.

Went for lunch and had pad Thai, spring rolls and the lunch special of cashew chicken. The restaurant has a good downtown location, clean area and decent service. The food is another story. The flavor level was a blah. Not much flavor in the dishes. We asked the server for some lime wedges for the pad Thai and she brought us lime juice from one the little plastic squirt bottles. Not quite the same. We won't go back.

went to Pongsri on a friday the 12th of November with my wife and another couple. We had reservations and were seated within 10 minutes. I ordered a chicken dish which contained what I assumed to be chicken, but the meat was tough and stringy. The dish also had mushrooms in it which was under cooked. My wife like her dish but she said it was mediocre at best. Overall, I could not recommend this restaurant.

Vegans are welcomed here! Don't let the location put you off, inside is a relaxed, clean and friendly atmosphere, and Pam, the owner always has time to say hello. Best peanut sauce I have EVER EATEN, and you can buy it to go. Enjoy watching the decorative fish lol about in the tank-a great conversation starter.

I went to Pongsri's for Pad Thai today. I went for dinnertime, there were 6 other groups there with me. The restaurant is cute and cozy. It's well decorated with nice music playing. It's not too loud though, I could see my book club coming here. I had the Pad Thai and it was alright. It didn't come with a lime on the side like EVERY other Pad Thai dish I've ever had has. I asked for a side of lime and they didn't have it. This was really shocking. The waitress brought me out lime SLICES... uh... hmmmmm. I did my best to squeeze these super thin slices that usually go in water on my pad Thai I would have asked for wedges if the server wasn't so prickly. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there. The Pad Thai was just alright before adding the lemon. It REALLY needed a lime on there. The lemon was alright, but I'm used to the flavor the lime brings. After I got the lemon on the Pad Thai, I really liked it. I would rate the actual Pad Thai as a 4 stars (only after adding a lime). The reason I gave this place the 3 stars is the service. I didn't get my drink for about 5-7 minutes after they took my menu. It was only refilled after I asked for it. There was never the 2 minute check back. I sat and waited while my food was getting cold to get the attention of the waitress. Very disappointing. As I was paying for my food I spoke with the owner of the restaurant about the issue with the lime. I told her it would go a long way for lime to come with the dish. She got defensive. At first she explained how this dish is made in Thailand. Alright, I liked how interesting that was. She then told me that lime juice is already added to the dish, and adding on the side would offend the cook. Uhhhhh... ok. I told her again, that everyone tastes are different and if they don't provide a lime with the dish, the kitchen at the very least should be stocked with some. Obviously I like more of a citrus flavor than what is already in the food. She didn't want to hear that either. I'm sure they will not buy any limes or have them available. Because of the lime issue and the poor service, I plan on not going back. Maybe I'll try it one more time to see if I caught them on a weird night. They really need more servers. Tonight there was only one and there really should have been at least two. Additionally, the server really needs to be taught better manners and etiquette about serving.

Laughably bad service but delicious Thai. The Pad See Ew and Seafood Tom Kha hit the spot, but my one qualm is they don't ask about how spicy you like it so it was under spiced for my taste (none at all). Lavender lemon iced tea was a delicious surprise but wish they stirred it because the flavors weren't mixed enough.

We enjoy eating at Pongsri's because the food quality is always excellent. The food tastes very fresh and I often order the Pad Thai. There has always been parking available and the family atmosphere is refreshing. The owner is usually always there and the staff is personable with good service.

Updated, cozy, craftsman house turned into an inviting dining of exquisite Thai food. YAY for Grants Pass. We have a winner here! We dined on a wonderful, yet simple Emerald Green Curry that had zing, yet full of delicate flavors. A second entree Seafood combination featured shrimp, calamari and scallops in an interesting brown sauce with a ginger influence. The fried bananas & ice cream was the final exclamation point. Definitely a dessert to be shared as it is huge. Most entrees are $9.95 to $13.95, so fairly easy on the budget. Why they charge a surcharge for brown rice is puzzling, but so be it. Service is still a little spotty, and needs some tweaking, but overall this is a great dining value in our town. New location is 363 NE E Street, Grants Pass

This restaurant has a comfortable small house feel. The food came quickly at lunchtime and was very good and inexpensive if you get one of the lunch specials. The orange chicken dish tasted like they had made the tempura chicken as soon as we ordered it.

I just tried Pongsri's yesterday. The atmosphere is very cozy and the food was great! We tried the green curry and vegetable tempura. As other reviewers stated, the appetizers are a little pricey, but they are huge portions.

The old Pongsri's is back! This restaurant has had quite a journey over the years. It used to be my family's favorite restaurant in the late 80s and early 90s. We took guests there regularly and celebrated birthdays and graduations there. Then we had a few bad experiences and it seemed to be deteriorating -- probably a switch from Pongsri's cooking to hiring other chefs. When it moved to the south end of town, we only tried it once and weren't that impressed. We went back when Pongsri's moved to the darling house on E Street. This location has featured quite a few restaurants over the years and we love the charming building but for some reason folks can't make it here for long. Our meal was terrific, especially the amazing Golden Fried Shrimp we had missed so much. The old Pongsri's is back. I'm guessing she's taken her kitchen over again!

Friendly service, above-average Thai food, and quick. Both my husband and I had vegetarian curries, and the depth of curry flavor and variety of vegetables was great. The service was quick and efficient. The menu is pretty varied, and they do a good job in separating vegetarian entrees from others. The decor is nice, it almost looks like the restaurant used to be an Italian trattoria with the frescoes on the wall! Thai food is usually a good stand-by across the country, and this did not disappoint.

As far as Asian food goes in Grants Pass, there are not many good ones at all. Having spent over a decade living in Japan and traveling all over Asia, I am usually disappointed by Asian restaurants in Southern Oregon. Pongsri's is of the better restaurants in town, serving good Thai food. Some of the dishes are a little Americanized and use local ingredient substitutions, but eh, it's hard to escape that in the US let alone Grants Pass. The menu is quite large and has a pretty wide selection of Thai cuisine. I've had a few dishes from the menu. The curries and spicy tom yum kun soups are good, as well as some of the chicken and shrimp dishes. The decor is a bit off; this was the former location of an Italian restaurant a few years back which was pretty good if I recall. The Mediterranean-based decor mixed with some Thai items elements me off, but really, I don't care much on decor. The food is important and Pongsri's delivers a good Thai meal for Grants Pass. Pongsri's was not a disappointment for me.

When we arrived the place was busy and I was expecting to have a good flavor experience since so many people were turning out to dine there. Thai food is one of my favorites and I try out most places that serve Thai. I was not so impressed with the flavors of the meal and the best part of the meal was the appetizer of Tempura Veggies.. The Ginger chicken was not very Thai-like in flavors and actually lacking in ginger. The red curry with chicken was similar. Most places that I have eaten Thai at are usually infused with flavors rich with basil and spices. I could not find one dish on the menu with any basil at all. Service.... I know that they were busy but the service was minimal. I even watched this one guy seated near the kitchen get up and go get his meal from the back. I assume he was a close friend of the owners or whatever, but it did not give me a good impression due to the fact that I dont know where this guys hands have been and he obviously was not staff that was working there. Just gave me bad vibes.. About $50 for 2 people for so-so food and so-so service.. I will drive past it from now on.

What once was a quaint Italian restaurant has turned into terrific Thai! Right by the center of old Grants Pass by Main St. is Pongsri's. Pam, one of the owners is very kind and attentive; she'll strike up a conversation with you if you like to talk. Our waitress was very nice and patient as well as answered all our questions about the food, the Thai iced tea and coffee were a little over-flowing so she came back and cleaned it up for us. Their large goldfish are very unique and friendly. Some pretty Italian paintings are still up, but the decor ties in with them. The food is five star, perfectly cooked and presented as well a large portion! The barbecued 1/2 chicken came with a delicious sweet chili sauce, perfectly fried wontons and the fried rice was flavorful. The seafood combo was delicious, cooked to perfection the shrimp fell off the tail and the scallops were sweet. The Massaman beef was very tender and the sweet succulent coconut curry sauce was amazing!

This place is so good!!! I ordered the pad Thai and it was great. There were so many peanuts- I couldn't have been happier!!! The only thing missing was the lime, but whateva! The food was so tasty. I really enjoyed how the noodles were cut for me already. Not gonna lie- the cut noodles were much easier to eat so I scarfed my giant dish in less than 10 minutes. Can't wait to be back!

I really enjoyed this place. The restaurant itself is very sweet on the exterior, like a pretty house in the middle of downtown GP. The interior is very nice as well, dark with wood walls, decent artwork, and a large fish tank. I came for lunch. The menu is extensive, although there are not many lunch specials which is unfortunate as it's nice to get a smaller portion entree with an eggroll or salad like most asian places offer. That being said, they offer tons of appetizers, but they are very expensive, which is not standard at most Thai places. The average appetizer was around $9 for satay. Ouch! I ordered panang beef (red curry), spicy, with additional veggies. The owner/chef personally came out to ask how I wanted it prepared. She was very considerate and obviously wanted to make sure I liked what i ordered, which I appreciated. The food was outstanding. My nose was running, a sign of success on the spicy scale! I even had to order a yummy Thai iced tea just to cool my tongue off (I love when I have to do this btw; this kind of spice is what I crave in all Thai food!). She added tons of fresh broccoli, carrots, even peas to my curry; impressive! This was truly excellent Thai food. I will definitely come back here when in Grants Pass. Just wish the prices were a little less steep so I can order more tasty bits to try!

I was pleasantly surprised by this Pongsri's. Given the dearth of quality ethnic food in the area, you tend not to expect much. And considering we were in Grants Pass of all places, we most certainly were a little cautious about even trying this place. The wife had pad see ew, and I (oddly) chose the orange chicken. Yes, orange chicken at a Thai restaurant. Anyway, the pad see ew wasn't as sweet as we'd expect, but tasty nonetheless. The orange chicken, was however, really delicious. Battered with cornstarch (rather than flour), it was light and airy. Likewise, the sauce wasn't as syrupy sweet as other places around here do. In other words, it wasn't at all like the funnel cake & molasses that Silver Dragon and the like serve up and call dinner. Certainly not the best, most authentic Thai I've ever had, but since this is Grants Pass, it's more than adequate. Service was friendly, and given it was busy, we were still served promptly and our drinks were kept filled. It is a small place -- I'm guessing about a dozen tables in total -- so I'd imagine this place gets a little cramped when it's busy. Our only complaint, is again, price. My goodness. Ten dollars an entree; nine dollars for an appetizer; 2.75 for soft drinks, and only one dish came with just a meager portion of rice. What is it with Asian restaurants charging so much for their food around here? Forty dollars for a meal for two is just absolutely nuts. That said, it's not like there's any other Asian restaurant in southern Oregon that doesn't charge that much, so I guess I should be used to it by now.

Excellent food and great service. Owned and run by a great family which makes the overall experience very enjoyable. The atmosphere is also great as the restaurant is a small house converted into a rather open floor plan restaurant. Even has an outdoor patio for when the weather is nice. I highly recommend this place.

Wonderful. I find myself craving Pong's constantly ever since i started going years ago. Me and my family adore this restaurant so much. Don't be fooled by its small size! Atmosphere is cultural and relaxing. We love the owners dearly. The food is so flavorful and portioned perfectly. Our personal favorite is the honey chicken, and if you sit down at Pong's without ordering their famous Thai Tea, you are missing out on the full experience. 5 stars.

Hands down best Thai food in Oregon having tried several places in Portland, Gresham, and Eugene. Had steamed potstickers, chicken satay, spicy Tom kah soup and chicken pad Thai as well as an iced green tea. Great food, excellent service. You really get what you pay for.

I went in for the first time last week and placed a to go order. Though, the prices are a bit steep, the portion size and quality made up for it. My Mom had the beef and broccoli which surprisingly compared to every other Asian restaurant I have ever been in had a ton of beef in it. I ordered the vegetable curry and it was the perfect amount of spice. I also ordered us a sampler platter with onion rings, zucchini, cheese sticks and shrimp. The food was excellent. I did think the deep fried shrimp was to flat, like smashed flat, but everything else was wonderful. The owner is super friendly, the place is super clean. I would like to sit in and eat there sometime, and will go back and highly recommend. I also recommend the Thai Iced Tea...wonderful!!

I came here with my parents when they came to visit Grants Pass. Growing up in the Bay Area, this place was the closest we could get in Grants Pass to ethnic food my parents would be willing to eat. I have to say, I wouldn't be able to permanently live in GP due to it's lack of diverse foods, though there are some good restaurants popping up here and there like the Korean Family Restaurant. Back to this place - the staff was great and friendly, and the ambiance was good for a quiet, pleasant meal. My parents and I were the only people in this restaurant that were ethnic besides the staff, however I think during my couple weeks in GP I was the only Indian in town. The place was so quiet I felt like everybody was eavesdropping on my family's conversation, which was not offensive or anything, but still awkward. The menu had a good variety of options, both vegetarian and carnivorous. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular. The tom yum was flavored decently, but it lacked the spice and special tang that it typically has. I wasn't able to order all the things I would have liked to try because of my mom's food allergies, so I can't comment on their staples like the pad thai. I'd be willing to go back by myself and try a couple more things to re-evaluate this restaurant.

Just moved to town and had to find a great Thai restaurant. We tried Pongsri's and were completely satisfied. Lots of amazing dishes and their coconut based soup with sliced mushrooms and chicken was tasty. They seem to only prepare items utilizing freshly grown, seasonal produce (a plus) and will cater to specific requests if asked. We will be coming back here a lot. What's funny is we met a local customer who often eats here twice a day. I may end up doing that too.

Terrible service from a lackluster girl who used the "you guys-es" term at every visit, & acted like she hated being there. Food came out 1 plate at a time for 20 minutes, leaving a visiting guest until last while other food went cold. The food all looked the same bland colors, & all tasted about the same. Lack of attention to service, drinks, and table service means that I will never go back. There are many better choices in Grants Pass.

Grants Pass is blessed with a number of good Thai restaurants, Pongsri along with Royal Barge Asian Fusion may be the best of the lot. Everything about this place is welcoming from the large, easy parking lot to the cute decor touches on the exterior to the inviting, lovely interior and the welcoming owner who remembers you even if you've only been there once before. A large aquarium, interesting art work and cultural pieces add to the interest here. The feel is like dining in someone's artistic home. The food is very good, I've had soups, curries, noodle dishes and an eggplant in garlic dish - all VERY good without exception. Serice is the only thing that can be hit or miss - hence the loss of a star.

Gourmet Food without the Gourmet Service. Sure the food is amazing and very lovely, but the service is lacking. I've been eating at Pongsri's for at least 2 decades and I do miss their old locations. Maybe they need a revamp? Here's my experience: There's no one to greet you and if you don't know that you're automatically supposed to sit down you look silly. (perhaps a sign to seat ourselves?) They have nice seating, but there isn't much room so if it's packed I would get take out. While they have a nice staff they often forget to remove plates and you're stuck with a small area to eat and not that much room. (We had to pile plates on another table) Some of the servers are awkward and seem way too busy and unorganized. I asked for a serving of ice cream to go home with, but they brought it out too early so it was melting on the table 20 minutes before we left. :( For a $100 meal I'm left packing my dinner which seems odd to me. I'm not trying to be mean but I expect more than what happened.

Great food and a very inviting and clean interior. I tried multiple items from the menu with all of them being well prepared and very good. Tip... Inform the patrons when seating them that the fish that appears to be in its last convulsions before its death that it is healthy and was hatched with a issue that makes it kick along the bottom of the tank upside down. :) K? My wife was horrified, however I didn't really care I was just glad it wasn't scooped out of the tank for my fish entree.

Truly the best Thai in GP and beyond. Totally authentic. Great Tom kah kai, pineapple fried rice and love the lavender ice tea. The owner is amazing. Family run, very clean, homey inviting atmosphere. Great place for celebrations and dates. Can't say enough positive things!
